Provincia di Milano
An intermediate body between the city council and the region which through the local autonomy reform has acquired further competence in a general context of increased statutory and financial autonomy and continues to carry out important tasks in favour of people in difficulty. In the field of rights and citizens’ social protection, a few months ago the Milan Province started off new initiatives which transversely fit into almost all the administrative competence; in fact it is responsible for the body’s “social balance sheet”, in other words the method of public accounting which makes all activities, initiatives, policies adopted in all sectors visible and comprehensible inside the establishment and all the external shareholders as well as the social relapse. Moreover, it defines principles and specific activities in the vast theme of citizens’ rights starting from the more disadvantaged ones, (elderly people, abused women, children, disabled, migrants, etc…) and develops intervention for the home and quality of living in a take-in situation. There are also new areas of responsibility – “Consumer protection” and “Social Integration of people in prison or with restricted freedom”, developed through synergies and co-planning respectively with representative associations and territorial private/social organizations. In this project the Milan Province among other things intends to further develop and implement several initiatives started off recently, one of which is addressed to the elderly population whereby importance is given to staying in the domicile and the safety of living conditions; the other one concerns a participated model of risk prevention and the structuring of principles and actions for local safety on the territory of the Martesana boroughs which is being proposed for diffusion to other provincial settings.

Complutense University Madrid
The Complutense University, one of the six state universities of Madrid, traces its origin to the 13th century (1293), as the “Studium Generale” that King Sancho IV of Castilla founded in a little town on the bank of the river Henares called Compluto by the Romans and Al-kala-en-el-Uhar (nowadays Alcalá de Henares) by the Arabs. In the 15th century, Pope Kalixt III established three professorships for Latin Grammar. One of their former students, Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros, Archbishop of Toledo and Cardinal, promoted their growth into a full university. Following his request, Pope Alexander VI executed in 1499 the foundation papal bulls (permission) of the new University giving it the Roman name of its place of origin “Universitas Complutensis”.
In 1836 it was transferred to Madrid, which, in the meantime, had become the capital of Spain, and was renamed “Universidad Central”. In 1943, on a general legislation for Spanish Universities, its name was changed into “Universidad de Madrid”. Finally, the new law of 1970 on the Statutes of Universities gave it the definitive name of “Universidad Complutense de Madrid”, in this way rewarding the initiative of its founder Cardinal Cisneros.
The Central Campus of the Complutense University is located in the Moncloa district where most of the 19 Faculties are, among them the Faculty of Education. The Faculties of Political Sciences and Sociology, Business, Administration and Psychology are located on the Somosaguas Campus.

LIVERPOOOL CITY COUNCIL – The Citysafe Team
The City Safe co-ordination was set up at Liverpool public body. The City Safe co-ordinates the forum of Services and Associations that are actively connected to the protection of weak layers which are more frequently inflicted aggressions and violence. The idea of setting up a co-ordination and a shared project was born from dramatic cases which involved, in particular, children. The situation of the victims is often known to different agencies but the lack of a connector leads to slow, unsynchronised and poorly protective interventions for those who are in a dangerous situation. The co-ordination driver idea is to collect experiences and resources to build customised intervention projects but also to join efforts to start prevention and information/formation actions towards public opinion.
